Ceylon Sapphire Salted Ring or Amy

Ceylon Sapphire Salted Ring or Amy

Posted by Harmony Winters on

Amy is a watercolor artist and teacher who hosts retreats in the most lovely places all over the world. Getting to know her while designing her ring was so much fun. I loved listening to how she explores the way art and nature intersect through her artwork, and how she envisioned that reflected into jewelry. She shared lyrics from her husband's songwriting and so many of their love stories to help me get a sense of their love and what she was looking for in a ring.

During our first appointment at the studio we looked through all of her heirloom family jewelry. She shared the history and tales of each piece, which helps determine the sentimentality and what should be used and which ones should be kept intact.

Next we unset all of her stones which takes much time and care. We chose the best diamonds from her original wedding band, her mother and grandmothers jewelry. Amy fell in love with oval blue sapphires so we had a selection mailed to the studio so she could choose one herself.

Over coffee and late afternoon sunlight she found the perfect one! A stunning 2.09ct Ceylon sapphire. 100% natural and unheated, sourced directly from the mine owner in Sri Lanka by my stone cutter. Set in 18k yellow gold and given a soft sand like texture.

Once the details were in place we got to work hand fabricating Amy's new ring. I absolutely love seeing flashes of it on her instagram as she shares her painting process.

Sand between our toes 'neath the starlit skies
